Today's Eagles

The first photograph was actually taken from my living room window - pretty lucky, huh?

Fire!

Last night there was a fire on the mountain behind us and I tried to get some photos... Pretty hard to hold the camera still but I didn't want to take the time to set up my tripod.

Summer shot

I was going through my photos taken earlier this year and came across this handsome fellow. He made a habit of sitting on our trellis and catching the early morning rays.

Winter is here

These photos were taken today in my backyard. The falling snow is giving everything a softer look, even the bald eagles.

Under the Weather

Our trip to Alaska involved a whole lotta rain but there were still some pretty moments for scenery shots.

A fish tale/tail

Although our photo trip at Juneau was cancelled due to rough weather, we did see some whales from the ship, as well as porpoise and seal. While most of the Humpback's that we saw only came up briefly for air, one did show it's tail. Unfortunately I was only able to catch a photo as the last second and you can hardly see what it is.

Glacier Bay

We had rain in every port, so we were glad that our day in Glacier Bay was clear weather and smooth sailing. We had planned one excursion for our stop in Juneau but sadly it was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. (Waves were up to 4 ft high which meant no whale watching for us.)

Don't Have a Cow, Man

These are photos of Margery Glacier (in Glacier Bay) calving -- the process of ice breaking off from the glacier and becoming an iceberg. I believe the ranger on board stated that this glacier both advances and retreats 6 feet each day.

Sit back and relax

Icebergs serve as a resting spot for various birds and seals.

On Land

Some photos taken with my macro lens which will hopefully be useful for my artwork.

At Sea

I enjoyed looking around on the cruise ship for pictures that might be used in my digital collage work.

Onboard Features

Onboard features include some fabulous artwork, including a metal piece and some etched glass.

Lounges, Casinos and Pubs, oh my!

One of our favorite spots to hang out was the Wheelhouse Pub with it's nautical theme.
Here is a photo of a dummy outside the casino...

Odd is the New Black

Saw this cool sculpture in Skagway.

... But Sticks and Stones

...excite me!
Some purchases made included petrified wood, labradorite, and wooly mammoth ivory. One store in Skagway sells only items made with yarn from the Musk Ox. Even though I no longer remember how to knit, I just had to purchase one skein and a pattern for making a simple scarf.
